Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why do I have to register online anyway?

A: For safety reasons mostly, there is a limit to the number of motorcycles that will be permitted to participate in the organized ride, so ONLY THOSE REGISTRANTS WHO REGISTER ONLINE AND RECEIVE A CONFIMATION NUMBER ARE GUARANTEED THEIR SPOT ON THE RIDE.

Q: Why must I provide my credit card information when I register even though I'm going to pay by cash or cheque?

A: It's unfortunate, but the reason is we've had riders and passengers register for past rides who are no-shows and have failed to canceled their registration. This means two things, one -they take away spots others could have had, and in some cases been turned away for due to lack of room, 2- the Badge Ride is a charity ride and has advance expenses based on the number of registrants and those expenses are still paid on behalf of the no-shows

Q: I've already registered online, why do I have to check-in on my arrival to the Badge Ride?

A: Check-in lets us know you've arrived so that we don't count you as a NO-SHOW. Also we'll have your completed registration and ride waiver form ready for your signature along with your payment. It helps to speed things up.

Q: I am registering for the "Badge Ride" as a law enforcement, fire or EMS worker; will I be required to produce employee identification?

A: Be prepared and bring your ID! You may be asked to provide verification of your employee status at check-in or at some other point during the Badge Ride as verification of registration status.

Q: I'm not a law enforcement, fire or EMS worker, can I still register for the Badge Ride?

A: Yes, but you'll require a sponsor. While the Badge Ride is held for law enforcement, fire and EMS workers and is limited as to the number of participants that can safely be accommodated on the ride. You may register for the Badge Ride provided a law enforcement, fire or EMS worker sponsors your registration and you have completed the sponsorship section fully when you submit your online registration.

Q: I don't have a motorcycle, can I still participate in the Badge Ride?

A: Yes, while vehicles other than motorcycles will not be permitted to participate in the Badge Ride motorcycle formation, those wishing to join the Badge Ride at the start (Breakfast) and finish (Dinner) may do so by contacting info@BadgeRide.com and making the request. The fee for this type of participation is $30.00.

Q: What type of payment do you take and when is it due?

A: While credit card information is required for registration, it is only used to process non-attendance fees. Payment for the Ontario Police "Badge Ride" is due upon check-in on the day of the ride by cash or personal cheque. If you wish to pre-pay by credit card, you must make your request by email to info@BadgeRide.com immediately after you have submitted your online registration.

Q: What if it rains?

A: The Badge Ride is set for a specific date and will take place rain or shine on Sunday August 15th, 2010.

Q: What if I have a break down during the ride?

A: A "chase" vehicle will follow the ride route and assist any participant whose motorcycle suffers a mechanical breakdown. Where a motorcycle is covered under a CAA or similar auto club membership, the auto club will be contacted to provide assistance.

If no auto club membership service exists, the chase vehicle will only be authorized to transport the disabled motorcycle to the end of the ride route. Owners may then make their own arrangements in respect of their motorcycle.

Q: Will I be required to sign any type of waiver?

A: Yes, all participants will be required to sign a liability waiver upon arrival and check-in for the Badge Ride. This waiver releases from liability any Badge Ride organizers, participating police agencies, sponsors, emergency services and all others as listed on the waiver.

Q: Is there anything I need to do in preparation for the Badge Ride?

A: Be sure your motorcycle is in proper mechanical condition for the ride, ARRIVE WITH YOUR TANK FULL, be prepared for any weather changes with proper clothing, have protective eye wear on and ensure you have your driver's license, ownership and insurance with you.

Q: What does the Ontario Police "Badge Ride" support through the ride?

A: The ride has supported two causes. The first being the Simcoe-Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre being built at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie Ontario. This facility will allow patients who live well north of the GTA to receive their medical treatment with much less disruption to their lives due to long drives back and forth to Toronto. The second cause is "Deeds and Dreams", a local Greater Toronto Area children's wish organization endorsed and sponsored by the Toronto Police Service.

Q: I'm coming on the ride but live a distance away. Are there any motels in Barrie where I might stay?

A: The City of Barrie has many types of visitor accommodations.  Please follow this link to Barrie Tourism for more information on local accommodations, restaurants and attractions.  www.tourismbarrie.com/where-to-stay/hotels/
